What Happens During a Chimney Inspection & Sweep?
This isn’t an all-encompassing list, but at the very least, you can expect the following when we complete an inspection and sweeping:
- We’ll make sure the chimney is cleared of debris and buildup.
- We’ll examine the flashing, chimney cap, and other components.
- We’ll view the current state of your masonry, looking for deterioration.
- We’ll ensure no animals are present inside of your flue.
- We’ll look at the chimney liner to ensure no cracking is present.
- We’ll verify that your damper is working properly.
- We’ll look over the firebox to ensure all is in tip-top shape.
Is Using a Dirty or Damaged Chimney Dangerous?
Quick answer? Yes – absolutely.
Longer answer… Using a dirty or damaged chimney can lead to smoke or carbon monoxide entering your home, increase your risk of experiencing a chimney fire, cause flames or heat to reach adjacent woodwork in your home, and more. At the very least, it’ll make your system run much less efficiently, and at the worst it’ll put those inside the home at risk.
